Assemble to order (ATO) – product is made from standard components kept as stock and assembled according to customer order. Assessment of Supplier measures capability in terms of the volumes, quality, or problem-solving capability, or service delivery etc. The assessment process will identify the capabilities and will direct actions towards the achievement of the appropriate standards
Audit of Supplier will measure the ongoing ability of the supplier to do what has been agreed to be done (measuring the compliance with the agreed standards and specifications). Audits will give us the confidence that the appropriate actions are continuing to be carried out and maintained

Capacity is an amount of work that can be done in a specified time period (the capability of worker, machine, work center, plant or organization to produce output per time), rate of doing work, not the quantity of work done. Capacity available is a measure of the expected output of a resource
Capacity Planning using Overall Factors (CPOF) is one of the techniques of resource planning, it takes place when production plan quantity is multiplied by the total amount of resources required to build one unit of the family to arrive at the total resource requirement, used in stable environments when the resources are aligned with product families
Carrying Costs are the opportunity costs (rate of return), storage facility costs, costs of stocking and handling, taxes and insurance, obsolescence or spoilage, thefts

Co-products are those products produced by the same manufacturing process which are different but have similar characteristics to each other. Co-products can usually be predicted and planned in the scheduling process
Critical chain method – in Theory of Constraints a network planning technique for the analysis of project’s completion time, used for planning and controlling project activities. It considers not only longest chain of tasks to complete the project but also considers the demand for the common resources needed for the project. When no resource constraints then critical chain = critical path
Critical Path Method (CPM) is a network planning technique that uses a single estimate of the most likely duration for each activity based on infinite loading of the resources

Functional (disconnected) layout design characterized by locating machines to perform similar functions in the same area. The machines are clustered together. This leads operational departments with individual supervisors like the drilling department, the welding department, the assembly department

Gapped schedule is run when every piece in a lot is finished before being processed into the next operation. This causes gaps in time between the end of one operation and the beginning of the next operation

Infinite loading (accumulate the capacity required without regard to the capacity available) appropriate where there is higher level of capacity flexibility than order/schedule flexibility. K
Kanban is the system that will send a signal called Kanban to authorize the movement of material or product from the supplying location to consuming location. Kanban can also be used to signal the authorization to produce additional product (limiting inventory buildup up to the number of kanbans)
Kitting is a process of constructing kits i.e. pulling components of a parent item from stock in preparation for moving them to a production area

Last in, first out (LIFO) directs picking from the newest inventory (e.g. distribution of perishable goods domestically and overseas using LIFO for its overseas customers because of longer in-transit times and FIFO for its domestic customers)
Lean Manufacturing that emphasizes the minimization of the amount of all the resources used in various activities of the enterprise. It involves identifying and eliminating non-value-adding activities in design, production, supply chain management, and dealing with customers. While JIT is limited to the manufacturing function, Lean aims to reduce waste in the entire enterprise
Level strategy in making supply plan when production plan is covering demand fluctuating by building up inventories, applicable when costs of changing level of production are high
Linearity – scheduling to less than full capacity (rest of time used to react to problems occurred, cleaning, lubricating machinery and solving problems)
Load is an amount of released and planned work assigned to facility for particular time period (sum of all required capacities)
Low-level code is the lowest level on which a part resides in all bills of materials (end item is level 0). It is used in MRP process to verify that all requirements are identified prior to planning an item (ensures that an item is not specified as a component anywhere in its product structure and the netting and replenishment planning is done only one time after all of its requirements have been identified).

Setup time is the time required to prepare the resource to perform the specified operation
Ship-to-WIP process where traditional receiving, inspection and stocking are bypassed and the product is delivered to the point of use. This eliminates significant cost in the operation as many steps are eliminated which add no value

Shrinkage refers to a loss of the parent and all the components required to build the parent
Six Sigma is a statistically based philosophy that aims to reduce process variability and consequently improve product-based quality which is very supportive of the manufacturing-based quality approach. It compares the variability of a product characteristics to the design specifications for the product. When Six Sigma is achieved, the distance between the product average and either of the two design specifications, or tolerances, is +/- 3 sigma, for a tolerance range of six standard deviations. In statistical terms, a process that achieves Six Sigma quality will generate just 3,4 defects per one million opportunities (DPMO)
Slack Time is the difference between the early (forward scheduling) and late (backward scheduling) start dates. Slack time positive = start of operation may be delayed by that amount of time without affecting the completion date for the project. Slack time negative = project is behind schedule
Single Minute Change of Dies (SMED) is a set of setup reduction techniques referred to as SMED single minute change of dies where economically feasible methods should be implemented converting internal tasks (accomplished when machine is not operating) to external tasks (accomplished when machine is producing product)
Small Group Improvement Activities (SGIA) work best if a team spirit develops and everyone is allowed to contribute to the success of the team. Decisions should be taken not by group leader but by consensus. Clear goals can be established early in the process by management. However, goal setting should be done by the team over time
Specialized BOM allows to reduce engineering lead times where the engineered product can be patterned after an existing product which has been made in the past. The intention is to establish a bill of materials for something close to the engineering product
